The Independent Budget Review Report E-mail

The Independent Budget Review reported back on 29 July outlining a series of options for delivering public services within a significantly constrained public expenditure environment. 

The report makes uncomfortable reading, and warns that it may take us 15 years to return to 2009 levels of spending, and the financial difficulties we are currently facing are urgent and cannot be addressed by efficiencies alone. The level of employment in the public sector is expected to fall and there are no quick fixes. However it acknowledges that the radical approach that is needed offers scope for increased voluntary sector involvement and collaboration in the delivery of public services.

GlaxoSmithKline IMPACT Awards E-mail

The IMPACT Awards are open to registered charities that are at least three years old, working in a health-related field in the UK, with a total annual income between £10,000 and £1.5 million.

Up to 20 awards will be made ranging from £3,000 to £35,000, plus 15 of the award winners will be offered free training valued at £4,000. The awards are seen as a quality mark for charities working in health care.

The guidelines and online application form for the 2011 IMPACT Awards are available from their website. The closing date for applications is Friday 24 September 2010.
 
Investing in Communities fund now open Print E-mail

This fund will primarily focus on tackling need and addressing inequalities.

It has three investment areas:
  • Growing Community Assets which aims to help communities have more control and influence over their own future through ownership of assets
  • Life Transitions, which aims to support  projects that help people at key times of change, helping them to make their lives better for the future
  • Supporting 21st Century Life this strand aims to support projects that build stronger families and stronger communities. 
     
In order to bring about lasting change, equalities, empowerment and the environment must be at the heart of the projects BIG support. BIG believe that they are connected and that communities and organisations that take them to heart will be stronger and achieve better outcomes in the long term. Before you apply they want you to consider equalities, empowerment and the environment in the design and delivery of your project. They will ask you about these as part of the stage two assessment, and they will work with funded projects to help improve practice in these areas.
The programme is open until 30 June 2015 there are no deadlines; grants range from £10,000 to £1 million.

PVG Scheme launch date announced E-mail

The new scheme that will strengthen protection for vulnerable groups in Scotland is set to commence on 30 November 2010, Children’s Minister, Adam Ingram announced today alongside publication of guidance and training materials.

The Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVG Scheme) is a new membership scheme that will replace and improve upon the current disclosure arrangements for people who work with vulnerable groups. As well as helping to ensure that people who have a known history of harmful or abusive behaviour are unable to work with children and protected adults, it will simplify and speed up the whole disclosure process, making it easier for employers, staff and volunteers to use.

LTSB criteria for funding E-mail

Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland distributes its funds to recognised charities in Scotland which are focused on improving the quality of life for people in Scotland who are disadvantaged or at risk of becoming disadvantaged. It has a particular emphasis on funding grassroots charities.

Criteria are set by their Trustees in a way which attempts to include a wide variety of charitable activity. These criteria are reviewed every three years in consultation with the voluntary sector.

Current funding streams are the Henry Duncan Awards, Capacity Building Grants, and Partnership Drugs Initiative.
