How flexible is volunteering? The good thing about volunteering is its flexibility. Whether you want to volunteer on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis for 1 hour or a full day we are sure to find an opportunity to suit you. There are also opportunities available during the evening and weekends, not all volunteering fits into the Monday to Friday 9 - 5. The key is to be honest about the hours you can give and how often you are available; it is always easy to increase your hours once you know exactly what volunteering involves. |

What happens when I enquire about volunteering? When you first contact Volunteer Centre Moray to ask about volunteering we request that you complete and return a registration form; once we get this we will contact you and arrange for you to come in for an informal chat about what type of volunteering you would like to do. Don't worry if you can't make it into Elgin or are unavailable during office hours, we will try our best to meet you in a suitable place at a suitable time. This chat takes less than an hour and during it we discuss why you would like to volunteer and the types of volunteering you would like to do; we then look at different opportunities that are available in the area until we hopefully find something that interests you. After this we send your details to the organisation who will contact you directly to discuss your volunteering. We will then contact you a couple of times over a period of 3 months to make sure that the organisation has been in touch and to find out if you are enjoying your volunteering. Simple really... |

What you need to know about volunteering whilst claiming benefits Your benefit should not be affected by volunteering but it is important to note that if you get any money, apart from your expenses, it will be treated as income and, depending on what benefit you get, may be taken into account when your benefit is worked out. You are able to volunteer for as many hours as you want as long as you still meet the conditions of your benefit. |
