SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association) Forces Help is the national charity helping and supporting those who serve in our Armed Forces, those who used to serve and the families of both.
Each year they provide a reliable, caring and trusted service to more than 50,000 people who are or were associated with any of the Armed Forces.
In Moray with two significant Air Forces bases it is obvious that SSAFA would have a dominant presence. Families of service personnel are constantly benefiting from SSAFA’s volunteers’ dedication and support each and every day.
SSAFA offer low key practical help, such as transport to hospital or providing a listening ear. Their aim is to help with the ordinary things that can be hard to deal with sometimes, especially being away from families.
As all voluntary organisations, recruiting volunteers is one of their key tasks; SSAFA volunteers are recruited through word of mouth, the SSAFA website, Volunteer Centre Moray, as well as attending public events.
SSAFA is a national organisation that has thousands of volunteers that support and provide their important services and within the Kinloss HIVE alone, the SSAFA co-ordinator has 13 volunteers operating in the area.
So is SSAFA what you are looking for as a volunteer opportunity?
“We work tirelessly to meet the current needs of our servicemen and women and the changing needs of those who have previously served. Our reputation has been built on the excellent work of our dedicated volunteers. They make a difference to thousands of lives.”
If you are interested in the wellbeing of people and families and want to make a difference within your community, why not consider SSAFA? Just lending an ear and support can change one person’s life!
