A big hello |

Volunteer Centre Moray would like to welcome their new Chief Officer, Helen Milnes.
Helen says "I have been working in the voluntary sector for nearly 20 years and am very committed to seeing our sector prosper. However I recognise for many members it can often be a hard task to make ends meet and recruit enough volunteers to keep going. This is at the same time as developing our organisations in order to meet growing demands. I also know that the voluntary sector is full of very hard working and dedicated people". |

Driver/Deliverer of Meals on Wheels wanted Meals on Wheels Drivers do more than just bring hot fresh food to their clients, they bring a cheerful face, kind word and caring eyes, noticing if other help may be needed. Meals on Wheels drivers need to own a vehicle. Meals are delivered throughout Moray on Mondays, Wednesday and Friday. They are collected from local schools in each area. Drivers in the larger project usually drive one round per month, this means giving two hours of their time. In some of the smaller projects a driver will do the deliveries for a week (but the rounds are short and only 30-40 mins per day) every 5th or 6th week. There are Meals on Wheels projects across Moray but volunteers are especially needed for the Rothes area.

Ann Gordon and Sheila MacDonald from Northern Scotland Local Pension Service recently spent a day volunteering with The Riding for the Disabled Association through a Community 5000 placement.
The Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) has more than 500 member groups throughout the UK. The Moray group was established in 1971 and is based at the Cranloch Riding Centre, near Elgin. This is ideal as it gives the group access to both indoor and outdoor facilities.
They are a small band of dedicated volunteers with 2 qualified instructors who run riding lessons for up to 70 less-abled riders of all age groups, both children and adults. Initially riders need to have three volunteers, one to lead the horse and the others at the rider’s side. The group runs 2 sessions per week, on a Wednesday (all day) and Monday evenings. |
