VCM - the future E-mail

A joint statement written on behalf of the Board of Directors of MVSO and Volunteer Centre Moray:

Mainly due to the Scottish Government’s wish for each of Scotland’s 32 Local Authority Areas to develop a single interface to represent the Voluntary Sector, but also partly driven by the possibility of achieving savings within the two organisation, Moray Voluntary Service Organisation (MVSO) and the Volunteer Centre Moray (VCM) are presently working towards a merger.

Funding was made available by a governmental department to employ a firm of consultants called Avante to facilitate this process and to help clarify whether the needs of our ‘customers’ could be better met if this merger was arranged. With this in mind a steering group has been set up consisting of representatives from each board of directors along with a representative of the Scottish Government. This group will look closely at what the future needs of existing members and volunteers might be and also the prospective needs of new groups and individual volunteers. This means looking at how a single organisation could best be structured to effectively meet those needs and be fully fit for purpose.

If a single organisation is established, great care will be taken to achieve these objectives with the minimum possible impact on the voluntary sector while, at the same time, ensuring the organisation has the continued support of existing members. To help maintain this essential support we will keep members updated with regular progress reports.

Leo Kendall                    Chair, VCM

Driver wanted for Aberlour Childcare Trust E-mail
Monday, 15 June 2009 13:42

Be prepared to smile, interact with and drive children and young adults with learning difficulties from the Moray area on their journey to and from home/school/respite.

Aberlour are based in Bishopmill, Elgin and are working with approximately 35 families across the Moray area. Staff at Alba are waiting to introduce themselves and the youngsters to you. They can guarantee variety and opportunities for you to become part of the team, to be valued, to interact with and learn from the children you will be driving. Aberlour have two vans which can accommodate wheelchairs but if possible the use of your car would be a benefit for some runs. All expenses will be paid back.

If you are flexible and respond to the needs of the unit and clients, this would be a fulfilling and rewarding position for you!

The Wave of Friendship is a volunteer exchange programme which has promotes and supports the exchange of volunteers between Scotland and London by the provision of bursaries to cover travel, accommodation and other expenses.

Volunteers can choose any opportunity that takes place between now and September 2012 that demonstrate the values of the Olympics movement: Friendship, Respect, Excellence, Courage, Determination, Equality and Inspiration. Suitable opportunities are likely to be for a set time, rather than an ongoing commitment, and could include providing support for an event, carrying out an assignment or volunteering for a fixed period of time.

T
he application process is easy and successful applicants receive bursaries of up to £500 to cover their costs.

We are seeking organisations which would like to participate in the programme by notifying us of volunteering opportunities which would be suitable for the scheme, or by publicising the scheme to their volunteers and supporters and encouraging them to apply to take part in the volunteer exchange programme.

What's been happening? E-mail

Last year MVSO sent out a questionnaire about setting up a Voluntary Sector Forum in Moray. The Forum is about the voluntary and community sector working together by facilitating networking between its members so that they share experience, expertise, resources and good practice in order to respond collectively to issues affecting Moray.

Since then, MVSO, Volunteer Centre Moray and others have been working hard to progress the idea. The Voluntary Sector Forum has now become the Voluntary Sector Partnership Moray (VSPM) and as the idea has developed over the last few months it has been decided that a further mandate from the voluntary and community sector in Moray is required.

A booklet has now been produced to bring you up-to-date as the VSPM concept has evolved significantly over the last few months. Your participation is extremely important as one of the main aims of the VSPM is to ensure that the voluntary and community sector perspective is included alongside the public and private sectors when decisions are made which affect the people of Moray. There is an opportunity in the booklet to provide feedback about your views on the VSPM; we would appreciate it if you could take a few moments to complete and return this.

For more background information the following documents are available to read: Establishing a Voluntary Sector Forum in Moray, and the feedback document from this consultation.
